First of all, let’s talk about what Visual Kei is in case if you stumbled upon this blog accidentally. Visual kei is a Japanese music movement that combines a unique style of rock music with striking visual aesthetics. Originating in the 1980s, the genre is characterized by its performers' elaborate and often androgynous costumes, flamboyant hairstyles, dramatic makeup, and theatrical performances. The term "visual kei" itself translates to "visual style".
Kote kei
Kote Kei is one of the oldest and most well-known styles of Visual Kei. It has the classic look that many people think of when they hear about the genre. Bands in this style often have big, colorful hairstyles and wear bold outfits, usually in black, with punk-inspired details like spikes and enamel pins. This style is also divided into two types: "Black," which has a darker, heavier feel, and "White," which is lighter and more melodic.
Kurofuku kei
Mainly just black clothes. Black suits are worn the most in this style. A good example of it would be BUCK-TICK or X-Japan
Oshare kei
Oshare Kei is a style that is bright, colorful, and fun. The word “oshare” means stylish or fashionable, and this style reflects that in both music and fashion. Unlike other Visual Kei styles, Oshare Kei has a happy and playful vibe. The music is more pop and punk, with cheerful sounds and positive lyrics. The fashion is colorful and inspired by street style.
Koteosa kei
Basically a darker version of Oshare kei, with some elements of Kote kei.
Iryou kei
Iryou kei bands have medical-themed outfits and, most of the time, lyrics, related to treatment and hospitals. This style usually shows a lot of blood splatters, eyepatches and injuries. Don't confuse it with Menhera Kei, because Menhera is more connected to mental health, while Iryou is about physical wounds.
Shiro kei
Kinda like the opposite of Kurofuku kei, Shiro kei very white.
Tanbi kei
Tanbi Kei bands are a style of Visual Kei that focus on themes of European royalty and beauty, often playing neoclassical or symphonic metal. Their fashion is inspired by historical European clothing, especially from the Baroque, Victorian, and Rococo periods.
Kirakira kei
This style appeared in 2010 and Kirakira kei bands perform with sparkly and bright costumes and an idol-like appearance. It's known for a heavy use of synthesizers and saccharine compositions.

My favorite Vkei band is Kakumay. They the best in my opinion. Funny story, when I first started getting into Vkei, and I saw they lead singer, I thought he was a girl. But he just really good at makeup. I actually wanna learn how to do the makeup.
