Initial ideas for sci-fi body horror story

For my AIF project, I am planning on writing a short story (10-15 thousand words) in a genre I am unfamiliar with writing. The genres I have chosen are sci-fi and horror, specifically body horror. I do not have characters or the plot planned out yet, but I do know I want it to be set in the internet, and that I want to have zombies in it. Perhaps the zombies came about due to a bug in the developers code. I will flesh out the details later, but right now it's simply research, as I need to create a portfolio of research for my first assignment. Everyone is encouraged to give me ideas or tips on how to write in these genres (sci-fi especially please, I am slightly familiar in writing horror). I want some of the themes to be posthumanism/transhumanism, as those are topics I find interesting, along with themes of biopunk and biocybernetics.
