Fandoms are hectic and here's why

RED TEXT MEANS SPOILERS!!!

To start this off, I feel like I should say that I am not here to hate on/make fun of any fandoms or it's people. This is just my opinion, if you don't like it you don't have to keep reading. Anyways. An obvious thing about any kind of media is that there's always going to be a fandom for it, even if it's not that big or if it's not that popular. But the bad thing about fandoms is that they always have toxic people, it's just a sad fact. But, sometimes I feel it gets too out of hand. For example, take the Voltron Legendary Defender fandom. There is this really popular ship that was almost made canon, klance/Keith X Lance. Now I'll admit the ship is cute and I personally really like the ship, but I choose not to really associate myself or anything I make with the ship. One of these reasons is that the makers of Voltron were going to make it canon, but they allegedly kept getting constant death threats from the fans. So they felt it was safer to just pair lance and allura together instead, but also last minute pair Shiro/Takashi with a character named Curtis. All this aside, I have seen many people try and show their own ships but immediately get shut down by the fandom. Some even getting constant harassment, it's honestly SICKENING. Like, it's a fictional pairing. It's not illegal, it's not p3d0ph1l1c. It's a SHIP. Now yes, shipping a child character with an adult character is creepy and shouldn't happen. Other ships that are consensual and both characters are about the same age are not even that bad. With the right amount of writing and enough au backstory and they can work. Honestly I don't know why I'm letting myself get so worked up over it, it doesn't really matter. But I hope at least SOMEONE here finds this interesting.
