Figuring out life when I'm almost an adult.

Thursday, February 6th, 2025

I am starting the part of my life where I have to think about college, my life aspirations, and what I want to do after high school in general. I've dealt with some rather uncommon struggles over the past few years (which I will not be explaining all of right now because that is a novel's worth of information) and I haven't exactly had time to figure out what I want in life.

I'm starting with small things that I enjoy and just trying to research fields that involve my interests. I've thought about being a medical illustrator, which is a field that requires attention to detail, art skills, and an education in medical illustrations. My other possible route that I believe would be enjoyable is to work in some way in Formula 1. I would love to possibly make art for one of the teams, help design the artwork on cars for the seasons and the liveries throughout the seasons (liveries are when the team's car has a special design on the car for a race. it is often done because of tradition, or to honor someone or somewhere).

After this school year, I'll have one more school year to figure out what I'm going to do. I mainly am just talking about this to organize my thoughts and to let anyone else my age know that if you don't know what you want to do yet, you're not alone with that.

I went through the same thing and once I got to college I learnt 1. I wasn't alone in the feeling and 2. people rarely follow a linear path in life. Someone may have went to college for one thing, got the diploma and everything but somehow ended up doing something totally different. I remember talking to one of my professors and she expressed to me that she had no idea that she would have the job she has now, but absolutely loves it nonetheless. She said that all she did was go where she had an opportunity and keep in mind her interests. For me college was a time for getting to know myself. I originally went into the Graphic Design program then quickly figured out that wasn't for me and just went on to get my generals. Now I'm taking a paralegal course. My point is, try not to stress so much about the future. Obviously have a healthy insight about it, but things rarely go the way you expect. Enjoy life! I think you're doing great by trying to get to know yourself, that's very important.
