I just spent like 15 minutes writing this and then I don't know what happened but all I wrote just disappeared. I am writing this again though, because everyone has the right to know how horrible the movie is compared to the book.
Firstly, they deleted important scenes, like lots of interrogation, searching through luggage, etc. I think that's what I loved the most about the book: I had my own suspicions, confusions, I was sure that some characters couldn't have been guilty, I was trying to remember the evidence. It was like I was part of the book, not just reading it. The movie felt the opposite.
Secondly, they added a ton of unnecessary scenes. Since the beginning, they made Poirot look like some perfectionist, which is shown again in the end, very dramatically, when the detective wants to kill himself because "he can't lie". Nothing near this happened in the book, and I don't understand why they felt like adding the scene, putting Poirot in an even worse light.
Lastly, the movie also messed a lot with the characters. They combined doctor Constantine, who was innocent and never suspected, with colonel Arbuthnot, who was a criminal and suspected. They also made the American detective pretend to be a racist German, which made him suspicious from the very start, unlike in the book where he looks like a nice guy.
So yeah, I absolutely hated the movie. Maybe if you didn't read the book you will enjoy it more, but I recommend just reading the book instead. I give the book 5 stars, and the movie 1 star (because I really liked Poirot's actor).
Next I'm probably going to do a comparison between the book Dune and the movie Dune. I will also watch Blade Runner at some point and do a comparison of it and the book too.
