When I first saw how many young users here were yearning for internet life in the 2010s,I'll admit I was scared! I'm like... am I the grandma in here omg?!
But I quickly brushed that off when I reminded myself the whole reason why I'm even on Spacehey is because I also never got to experience Myspace! I never saw the side of the internet where people would put so much time and effort into creating a page that reflected their interests and/or personality. I love it here!
I seriously never thought that what I experienced on the internet growing up would become nostalgic for the next generation! To be fair, when you're in it, it feels like forever. Like this is it. It doesn't get better than this. But as time goes by, we realize that these phases come and go-- and sometimes they disappear altogether. Vine, Twitter, and soon TikTok one day will be ancient artifacts. What we write and post will soon become lost.
Ooooh, don't even get me started on lost media!! Lol, if we somehow have no choice and end up getting neuralinked (screw you Elon), I just hope I can forever remember my favorite memories in some sort of archived section in my expanded mind. From songs to edits to memes idc. I just hate forgetting stuff >:(
As I do deep dives and look back into trends of the 2010s, I am filled with so much happiness! Because I really got to live that. It was so much fun! Do I miss it? Hell yeah. But I'm not going to make it out as if the best days are behind me. Hellooooo, I'm in my 20s. THEE best time to be young and turnt; which I am successfully doing btw. I go out, have weekend drinks with my bf, and occasionally go to dance clubs with my girl, and I strive to make memories no matter how small! For example, I got blackout drunk the other weekend -- sponsored by a Long Island Iced Tea-- and I did end up losing my leggings, but boy did I dance my little heart out!
So I guess what I'm trying to say is... appreciate the present times. Look for the silver lining, because what I've learned is that what can be insignificant today, you will miss dearly ten years down the road.
Maybe it's all the time you (get to) spend on your phone, or the creaky stairs to your place, or the routine of going to school.
Not to upset you but the stores in your local mall will change, your school won't look the same as it did when you went, and your friends will move away.
Change is always promised, appreciate Today.
That being said, I look forward to hopefully writing more about internet trends and culture in the 2010s. If I could get a PhD in that topic, I would. But I just think its important to pass on the knowledge and record it someway, somehow.
xoxo
