Do you use the internet?
Do you know how to stay private online?
Well don't worry, 'cause here are some really simple things you can do to protect your privacy on the internet!
1. Use Firefox
I recommend FireFox for a variety of reasons. Firstly, unlike Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and many other browsers, it's NOT Chromium based. This means they're not sending your data to daddy Google. Now, this is an oversimplification, and browsers like Brave are committed to removing these Google services despite being Chromium based, but they don't guarantee they've removed everything.
Firefox is focused on privacy like tracking protections (this means it prevents trackers from following you around the internet and collecting information on you).
Firefox also allows for greater user preference customization that isn't possible on Chromium browsers.
(There's another great browser called LibreWolf, which is like Firefox but even more committed to privacy!)
2. Use an AdBlock (Recommended: Ublock Origin)
Adding an ad-blocker is so easy and is so important for so many reasons!
Firstly, ADs do more than annoyingly pop-up to try to sell you shit, slowing down your whole webpage in the process as they have to load all their extra crap. They also track you. These trackers can follow you across sites, so an AD I saw on Facebook can follow me when I close Facebook and open up my banking app or browse on Amazon. ADs also collect as much information on you as they can, such as your location, the OS you're running, browser history and whatever else they can get their hands on (yes, even in "Private Browsing").
Simply allowing the AD to load on the webpage you're visiting is enough to allow them to track you. You don't even have to click the ad. Some ads are even malicious and will try to automatically download a virus or malware to your device! This is why I never browse the internet without AD-block.
I recommend using Ublock Origin, which you can find in Chrome Extensions or Firefox Add-Ons or whatever your browser's version of those are.
3. Privacy Badger
This is an ad-on / extension you can add to your browser to block invisible trackers!
4. DuckDuckGo (Add-On OR Browser)
Another great browser you can use is DuckDuckGo, but if you are committed to Google, Firefox, or whatever else you're using, you can simply add DuckDuckGo to your current browser as an Ad-On / Extension!
DuckDuckGo helps block trackers and doesn't track you themselves. They don't track your search history, IP address, among countless other things. They're pretty cool, all things considered.
Feeling Overwhelmed?
Don't be! This may seem like a lot, but you can start small. Focus on just doing one of the above things and you're already doing leagues better in reclaiming your online privacy!
(I'm writing this at 2am, so hopefully i didn't make to many errors ^^')
