introduction & context

It all started when I found out my favorite metal band EVER (sepultura) announced their farewell tour and I FREAKED OUT because I didn't want to witness my band ending without never seeing them live, so I started to look for ways to get to one of their tour concerts. They didn't announce one at my town in the first Brazil tour post (will come back to this LATER), so I had to buy tickets in another state and travel to there. It was pretty expensive (；′⌒`) but the experience I ended up having during the process of getting there was life changing and made it all worth it!

le epic travel plan:

❥ two plane flights. One to São Paulo and another to Rio Grande do Sul, where the concert was going to happen. One day before the concert.

❥ stay for just a few days after it (since I was skipping classes to go to the concert and couldn't miss my tests) at my uncle's house, so I wouldn't have to expend money with accommodation & lunch. 

❥ come bak home (‾◡◝)

panic! chaos!

we started getting problems mid-travel because of poor airport organization (thank you so much(►__◄) ) and I began to worry that I, maybe, wouldn't be able to arrive in time for the concert!!!! My dad tried to calm me down and put some sense in my head, but I've always been a worrywart, so I genuinely thought I was not going to be able to get to the South (RS) in time. And it got worse when my last flight (SP -> RS) got delayed for like, many hours! I had to stay at the airport until late night, and when I got to the final destination, it was practically midnight!

I got a lot calmer when I realized I had managed to get to my destination, and that I was, in fact, going to be able to see them live... phew! As my dad went to grab our baggages, I decided to go to the bathroom and wash my face.

epic fangirl meltdown

going towards the bathroom I saw some tall guys in the distance looking at me and just . checking me out (in the sense of analyzing me, NOT ROMANTIC.) probably because of my fit --- I had my battle vest on & was generally looking like a metalhead. I got a bit shy and smiled at them, hurrying towards the bathroom because I'm SCARED of PEOPLE YUHH 🔥🔥🔥🔥

After a few minutes of me in the bathroom, I hear the bathroom door open and my dad's voice boomed into the small area. He said: "MALU THE BAND IS HERE, HURRY, HURRY!"

my honest reaction ^

I instantly rushed out of the bathroom like a (not very) sane person and INSTANTLY froze in the doorway when I saw, none other than, the WHOLE F*****G BAND standing at arm's length from me. I still feel like I sound like those Wattpad fanfics where the girl makes up things to make her life more interesting when I type this, but I am genuinely not lying (⊙_⊙;) . . .

Derrick, Greyson, Kisser and Paulo were looking at me, and I laugh every time I remember how awkward everyone got (aside from Derrick, that guy had a silly smile on his face the whole interaction) when I started to panic and scream "OH MY GOD, NO WAY, NO WAY! OH MY GOD" while my knees faltered. 

I think everyone has a moment in their life where they just... script a conversation they would have with someone they are a fan of, if they ever were to meet them somewhere; and I am NO DIFFERENT! I had a whole script in my head of how I would thank them for their music, and how I would ask to take pictures and autographs like a cool nonchalant metalhead. Buuuut, when it actually happens and your brain goes into petrified mode, it's hard to actually put the plan into action. 

As I genuinely couldn’t speak properly, my dad had to control the situation and ask for them to take pictures with me. They were very understanding and friendly towards me, and every day I wish I hadn’t panicked and actually had managed to have a conversation with them (´。＿。｀) I also got them to sign my Star Wars manga, so that was fun! 

personal thoughts on each band member

I was always intimidated by their imposing (tall, big & serious guys . aside from Nekrutman, he's cute ^_____^) figures, but when I look back at my interaction with them, I realize that they are just guys. They were all very respectful and sweet and this warms my heart so much I could cry right now as I write this.

Derrick was SUCH A SWEET GUY. He was smiling at me the whole interaction, and even when I wasn't particularly talking to him, he just looked at me with a sense of sweetness that still overwhelms me a bit when I think about it. He's a GIANT, but he seems to have a very sweet heart (‾◡◝)

Andreas is also a giant, but he was a lot more reserved than derrick. He was just quiet and very respectful . . . . and very handsome ⚆_⚆ like insanely so. Funny fun thing was that we took a picture in the exact same pose and with the same face ! 

Mr. creyson (as some of the brazilian fans + Andreas calls him) was not just quiet; he was shy! probably because he doesn't really speak Brazilian Portuguese, but he was just as nervous as I was when we interacted! he's not as intimidating as the other band members, and he seems like a sweet guy. He was very cute.

Paulo was the one that I didn't manage to include on my picture, for some reason. He later came to talk to me and my dad, curious to what we were going to do in the state. My dad told him how we traveled only so we could go to their show, and he seemed surprised! He told us to try and stay at the front during the show, and gave me one of his guitar picks! He was very kind. Furthermore, he later also mentioned that they were in fact going to do a show at my state, they just hadn't posted about it yet. . . . but I still believe that the travel to see them was worth it.

bonus mention to their social media manager (?) that was with them and gave me a bunch of sepultura stickers, big fan of you, man!

I would add how the show was + how my second show (this time at my own state, much closer to home) was too, but this blog is already HUGE. . . . so lets finish it already, shall we?

finishing thoughts

❥ know that even if you have a script or a plan of how you plan on interacting with someone you are a fan of, your emotions can take hold of you and make you forget everything!

❥ this experience made me see delays and unforeseen occurrences with different eyes. If it wasn't for my flight delay, I wouldn't be able to meet my favorite band 1:1, so maybe next time you have an unforeseen thing getting in your way, try to think of it having happened for the better (‾◡◝)
