Def Sound, HUEM_N
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Standout track: Miskeen Tee
"The virus is racism
The virus is much like vibration
Although you can’t hold it you know it’s real
You know it’s here..."
And that's just a line from the opening song titled A Poem Called Here... and it sends shivers down my spine. Def Sound is a profound a poet as the likes Safiyah Sinclair and Ishion Hutchinson. Imagine some of the best black poetry you've read, accompanied by stellar and imaginative dream-hop production, a surprising roster of songs betraying diverse influences and sentiments, and a refreshing lack of macho posturing that sometimes spoils rap music.
"Me and my mother hug from 10 ft away
Mouths miming 'I miss you’s' through facemasks
Longing for a time not so long ago..."

Altar of Eden, Chimeras
Genre: Post-Punk
Standout track: Matrix of Chaos
Why does Texas produce all the best punk groups? Something about adversity creates a stronger breed of rebel, I'm guessing! If you're as big a fan of Detriti Records as I am, I'm sure you'll agree that this seven-track stunner would fit right into that label's roster of morose batcave lo-fitronica.

Sarah Louise, Field Guide
Genre: Instrumental Folk
Standout track: Late Summer Seed Collection
Tells a story without uttering a single word. Sarah Louise is evidently one of those understated yet deeply talented musicians whose song-writing clearly takes a lifetime of practice, yet somehow makes it sound so effortless, like it's flowing from her.
