maintaining biodiversity
hello!!! welcome to the first lesson haha, today's subject is biology / geography, maintaining biodiversity!
first, what does biodiversity mean?
-it is the variations of biological organisms!
global warming is one of the factors that are causing our biodiversity to decrease (which is bad for the earth)
how is global warming caused?
1) there are too many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (e.g methane, carbon dioxide)
ย ย -there is a lot of methane in the air because the higher population of organisms means more waste let out (fart is basically methane)
ย ย ย cattle and rice fields also let out lots of methane when they respire, cows fart a lot too....
2) the level of carbon dioxide is rising. this is because people are chopping down trees! (deforestation) when trees are chopped down, the let out the carbon dioxide stored inside. less trees = more carbon dioxide on earth
what are the consequences?
1) extreme weather conditions!
-melting ice caps
-tsunamis and hurricanes
-droughts
-unstable climate changes
programmes that help maintain biodiversity!
breeding programmes for endangered species
-a breeding programme is to breed endangered species so we still have some of them alive and not to go extinct
-but it's not that easy, many rare animals don't reproduce easily or fast.ย artificial programmes must avoid inbreeding!
-animals such as pandas and horses have high profile international breeding :))
reintroduction of field margins and hedgerow!
what is a hedgerow?
-it's a row of trees and shrub usually found around fields or gardens
-in agricultural areas, farmers removed the hedgerows to produce huge fields in which to grow a single crop!
-this reduces biodiversity because it removes a wide variety of organism
(e.g plants, birds, insects and mammals)

class is over!!
i'd understand if you guys disliked this (I mean who wants to study outside of school?)
but I hope at least you learnt something
please leave a comment to tell me how I did as a teacher hahah
