In Hot Pursuit

Back when I was growing up, late in elementary school and into middle, we got a PS2 from a friend of ours who'd upgraded to a PS3. Among the games I got was Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. It was one of my absolute favorite racing games ever -- practically everything about it was awesome. The soundtrack was filled with awesome rock and rap music, the gameplay was fast, fluid and fun. The cops were more of a challenge than the AI racers were -- escalating from simple roadblocks, they'd lay spike strips down to halt my progress. I'd typically manage to evade or smash through the roadblocks and spike strips. But perhaps the most bizarre armament in their fleet was their helicopter, which would drop explosive barrels all over the road to stop me. Some would actually explode into not-easy to spot extra spike strips; I always loathed those ones because they were much less easy to spot and evade than the normal spike strips. And then they could also fire this crazy missile at you which would blind you for a few seconds and bring your car to a halt.

Yeah, they were just like most cops -- overkill by way of ex-military armaments. Therefore, I always played as viciously as possible by smashing the cops cars and driving crazy to get them off my tail -- which often resulted in a "Beat the Cops" bonus of 5000 points in the last lap of the race (by which time I'd either be so far ahead of the AI racers they weren't a threat, or the cops had arrested them all). It was so, so fun and addictive. Then I wound up selling my PS2, and the game along with it. I kinda regret that now, simply because rediscovering the game on YouTube has ignited my passion for racing. Rocket League is fun, but it's not the same without evading and smashing up cop cars -- something that's more important than ever now, since we all know at this point how bad the cops really are.
