im writing this as a cautionary tale. the last owner coulda had bad things happen to them but fortunately for them their laptop fell into the hands of a little kittycat that doesnt rly care enough to do harm. but you might not be so lucky. so listen up
so back in november i picked up a lovely sony VAIO at the thrift store. a machine most magnificent indeed. thought it'd make a nice addition to my collection. when i got home i booted it up to see if there was anything still on it and i was kinda pleased to find that what seemed to be the stock windows vista installation was still present. so i went looking around out of curiosity and it basically went like this:
installers for old software, random games, a PDF on starting a shaved ice business, someone else's photos of michelle obama, the last owner's application for life support, nitro boat vs whiny gf... AN APPLICATION FOR LIFE SUPPORT???????
yea so that document is the last thing youd want someone else looking at. its got the last owners full name, social security number, home address, home phone number... and all of that for their MOM too. granted ts is from around like 2010 so some of its probably now outdated but regardless. jesus christ. i could commit identity theft on this fool if i really wanted to. im not GOING to. but if some1 w mal intent bought it b4 me they coulda gone hog wild under this persons identity
and for the record... I DONT WANNA HAVE ACCESS TO THAT EITHER!!!!!!!!! i feel like a criminal even just having the laptop in my possession... im planning to wipe the drive completely after i recover any interesting files that *DO NOT CONTAIN SENSITIVE INFO*.
long story short. if yr gna sell ur old devices, make sure to completely wipe your data from it before you hand it off. rip out the hard drive and eat it if you have to. cuz you never know
