as a refresher - italicized tracks are interludes, bolded tracks are my standouts (a.k.a. a 4.5 (out of 5) or higher), a ★ indicates my favorite song, and an × indicates my least favorite song
(p.s. clicking on an album cover it'll take you to some more info about the album on rateyourmusic)
i realized that i've never included my rating scale on any of these and most people probably will not look at my rym so i present

certainly lives up to both album and band name, feels very spacey. very metallic, if that means anything to you. it gets a little boring at parts, but there's some great releases that do good at making the buildups worth it, especially the end of Orion's Belt Buckle, which is easily my favorite moment on the album. stuff like that helps the 5 track 44 minute runtime not feel excessive at all - in fact, this album legitimately flew by. the one thing i'm not totally sold on is the vocals, but they still have still great moments (i again go back to the end of Orion's Belt Buckle). the one song that was kind of annoying was Atlas of the Milky Way, which has sections with a squid beats 2 ass clap sound effect that i did not care for. but even with that, the band does an excellent job at moving these lengthy songs along without making listening feel like a chore.

exactly what you imagine that combination of genre tags to sound like. good catchy tunes - nothing terrible but pretty generic, very samey throughout. Good News had my big standout moment with a fantastic lead synth melody. the instrumentals are all pretty good, the big thing that dragged this down for me honestly was her vocals. not that she can't sing, idrk what it is but there's some moments that just don't work for me.

a wise man once said that the best 60s/70s albums have the worst covers. this is fairly solid evidence to back that up. there's something about the way people sang back in Ye Olde Days that tickles me in a pleasant way - the prechorus on I Won't Run is exactly what i'm talking about. Hide and Seek is also a fantastic example of this, easily my favorite. Are You Lonesome Like Me is a fantastic ballad, just absolutely buttery smooth. this album is the culmination of everything i love about 60s and 70s music and if you're a fan of that era you'll definitely love this. the second half definitely isn't as strong as the first in my opinion but there's still nothing i didn't really like on here

this has shown up on my discover weekly every other week for about a year straight. maybe i chose to do discover weekly albums just to finally listen to this. you don't know that. anyway, this album is haunting in a beautiful way. it evokes a similar feeling in me as that one lost media song that ended up being from a porno of just like,,, strangely eerie. the vocals are almost ghoulish on songs like Lesions in the Brain and Lost Upon the Flame, like listening to a banshee. i will say i spent most of this album trying to get a gold medal on ravioli in cooking mama 2 dinner with friends and i don't think these two moods compliment each other well. the pasta cutting minigame is fucking bullshit. fuck you mama

Bootie Noir - Nnamdi's Sooper Dooper Secret Side Project | 2013
★★★½
idk man it looked funny. this is obviously not a serious release, feels kinda like a slightly more "well" done yuno miles at times, but what it's successfully done is made me very interested in nnamdi's other albums because if he can get me to like an album with a song with 4chan in the name then there's probably some real power in this guy. my biggest actual complaint is that Bed (Skit) just goes on for so fucking long, it's the same length as most of the actual songs. but again this obviously isn't supposed to be taken seriously. going back to the obvious yuno miles comparison, i like this for the same reason i love yuno miles - it made me laugh. this was incredibly ahead of its time, this feels so 2020s chronically online i had to keep reminding myself this is from 2013. You Got Stupid on Your Face is my definite favorite with the absolute disinterest in his voice the whole time and a pretty catchy chorus. and speaking of catchy choruses, Biggiddy Bozza RIzzom is genuinely such a fucking earworm it's pissing me off. Scarlett Johansson also got a big giggle out of me. i give this album FIVE BIG BOOMS!!!!!!!

Tchotchke - Tchotchke | 2022
★★★★
it's cute, it's sweet, it's exactly what i expected. which is to say, it's nothing groundbreaking. but that being said, i almost always prefer music that's very good at something a lot of people do than music that tries some weird experimental shit and falls flat on its face. Tchotchke isn't trying to be to be groundbreaking, and it doesn't need to be -they're clearly very good at what they do. the vocals absolutely radiate kate bush, which is really one of the highest compliments i can give. the only weak link i can point out is Dizzy, but its worst sin is just being boring. i absolutely see my score rising when i come back to this

much more piano driven than i expected. but speaking of the piano, it's absolutely beautiful throughout the whole album. this gave me the same sort of feeling i had when listening to sheena ringo for the first time - obviously two very different artists, but this gave me the same feeling that i can only describe as Okayyy!. カタルン カララン is such an earworm, especially the "hatchi-san, hatchi-san" part. there's a charm to this album, it feels very cute, especially in her vocals. the more beautiful moments, namely 大きな石 and アンダンテ・カンタービレ, are my standouts though, dropping the cutesy performance for almost a shrill shriek that cuts through the the empty space. i definitely want to listen to more from her eventually since this is only her 9th highest rated album out of 37 and 3 bolded. also tyler the creator sampled ヨ・ロ・コ・ビ on Balloon so that's cool
for people who get really excited when they recognize a sample
