why is tech so boring? is social media too much? (stupid rant by a 13 yr old girl)

just wanna say: i wasnt around when the first iphone released or the DS or the wii released, but i think theyre super awesome and i have my own modded 3ds now! begged my mom for it (。・ω・。)

imo technology used to look cool, like the flipphones! it looks so satisfying to flip . I used have one for like 9 months when i was 7 yrs old, cause my mom didnt want to buy me a smartphone yet. no idea where it is now though.. after that, i used my dads old CAT (yes, the brand CAT) phone.

back to my original point.. JUST LOOK AT THE IPOD!!! OR THE OLD IMAC!!!
(this one is cool, i kinda want it! ↑ plus, its got whatsapp ! the thing i use for texting :3)

sure, maybe im glorifying it but can you blame me??? its just so nice looking.
im thinking abt deleting tiktok, but i know ill probably just redownload it again. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!!!! i have doomscrolling syndrome at this point, ipad baby syndrome core.

plus, in school, if we're playing kahoot or something and i have a flip phone, i jus cant connect!!! unless i buy one of those samsung flip phones with a touchscreen and access to modern apps... but that kinda ruins the point?????? plus im the most socially awkward person on earth so HOW DO I ASK MY MOM ABT THIS ANYWAY? aughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

..IPODS! the mp3 players! theyre so cool! i already kind of have this one app on my phone called "retropod" and i love it. if i dont have wifi, ill listen to my saved mp3 files of songs!!!!!!!! o(*^▽^*)┛

it'd be cool to have a cd player,i know my mom has one of those.......somewhere......

modern phones! i cant really flex that much about any new phone cause it'd be like: "ooh guys look! i have a new phone that does the same things that your phone does its just a different model!! oooohhh im soo cool!!"- you get my point (┬┬﹏┬┬)

THIS IS SO BORING! its almost the same similar design as all the other 100000000000000000000 brands of modern smartphones aughjjjjjjjjjjhhhhhhhhhhh

omg, i feel you. I actually own some phones you showed in the pictures;
the sharp aquos one: I ordered it in august but never tried it as my main phone, because my contacts list wouldn't import there, or get corrupted T_T. And thats not even the worst thing, the worst is the thing that on my phone the hinge was broken. It has a button, which unfolds the phone, but whenever I close it sometimes it just wouldn't or even if it does after some time it opens itself (bcause of that it fell several times :( )
the nokia one: I acually own a Nokia Flip 2720 and it was my main for abt 3 months I think? I liked it but the biggest problem for me was the charge, whatsapp was always in backround and ate too much battery (without it charge would last several days, compared to only one :-O).
Now I don't really want to use them as my main because our teacher does google forms tests every week so it would be not only akward but also difficult. Old tech is really cool and fun, but now everything is almost idenical, I feel like smartphones stopped being somewhat fun and intresting in 2019. Omg this comment is so big right now, I'll stop writing or it will explode (。_。).

I agree that some of this stuff looks very cool, but minimalism has lots of benefits that get overlooked.

Just think about the flip phone vs the modern phone when it comes to something simple, like the keyboard. With touchscreens, bilinguals can swap between keyboards and type in new languages. There's no way for this to easily be done with physical buttons on a flip phone.

I know the dominant mindset among young people is that 2000s era technology was where it's at, and sometimes that's true, you're right that social media has a TON of drawbacks. And customization is awesome. But there's lots about modern things that we shouldn't take for granted.

Not trying to rain on your parade, I'm on spacehey so ofc I love some dated tech. Just always be wary that nostalgia (even nostalgia inherited from people older than you) only makes us remember the best parts of something. We forget the drawbacks, and the inconveniences that made people reinvent technology to where it is today in the first place.

TL;DR: I agree and I hope some older tech stuff comes back into mainstream again.

As someone that did grow up near this point, I 100% agree. I think technology is almost too streamlined and "minimalistic" in a way.. Too optimized for money. I miss being able to click my flip phone to hang up, and I miss when pages like MySpace and this were more common. I miss being able to customize my channel on YouTube, etc. But it seems like as people like me become more nostalgic for this stuff to come back, it will make a return in some form. Just look at Spacehey! Perfect example.
