i have broken many nails recently. for example: my toenail collides with the dishwasher door, and i say OW! for the sake of form, even though it did not actually hurt. then i realize my big toenail is, like, not totally split, but there's the start of a large split, and you bastard, this is going to lurk for days and then bust up after a shower one morning when it's soft, when i least expect it. i know this, because i know god hates us.

of larger concern is breaking a thumbnail before that, and indexnail just yesterday. i am going to eat more cereal, with milk, clearly my nails are in need of fortification.
