why would they design it that way dude

ok so i got my hands on a panasonic vdr-d50p camcorder like last week (had to order the battery separate cause i didnt look at the listing close enough but whatevz) and dude the design of it so FUCKED. like you cant access the mini usb port without taking the battery out, plugging in a special 9.4v dc cable into the camcorder, plugging the other end of it into an ac adapter (which is also the only way to charge the battery btw), which you then slot the battery into and plug into the wall.

like why would they design it this way??? my only guess is that the disk drive just takes up too much space and this was the only way to do it but like why wouldnt they just have a simple wall plug type deal to power the camcorder while the battery is out? its whatevz though, this is what i signed up for when i got into the hobby. bizarre design choices and fucked up cord types.
