always a good day to be indigenous

the way there are so many more mainstream native american shows and movies really makes my heart full. it had always been tough growing up and not seeing yourself represented anywhere, granted i grew up in a heavily native community but still.

leaving my hometown was liberating but it also created a confusing time, all those years ago. it was weird going places and not seeing other natives or even just talking about things and finding out some people didn't even know there were indigenous people still alive

crazy how times have changed but were reverting into the past, right?

even working on the reservation, people from all over would visit or pass through and still not believe that native people were real. honestly baffling.

ANYWHO

met derek (red feather from the show american primeval) today and it really was a cool moment, hearing a little bit about him. i just can't believe i was so nervous. i don't know why, i didn't really feel any type of way going there but seeing him just got me.

not in an attraction sort of way, but definitely emotional and admirable?? idk i always struggle with articulating my thoughts. it was just really nice. like, it is just so important to have more indigenous artists, creators, and people in general being noticed. im glad that the youth of today have more and more people to turn towards and look up too.
