I need to touch on this first thing immediately, DO NOT QUIT. Do not get scared. You are starting out on a new social media website, it's going to be scary at first, don't quit or you won't see results. This is a wonderful platform full of great social opportunities and benefits so PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU DON'T GET SCARED AND LEAVE. The community wants you to stay around! So don't feel like you'll be rejected from social circles here just because you don't have a full profile or flashy layout, just stay here and socialize and use the platform and I promise you will love it here, regardless of if you follow my steps or not.
I thought I would make a little section-based guide for all the newbies who might need a little more instruction. I've found not everyone fucks around and finds out like I do, so I think this could be nice!
Figuring out socializing on SpaceHey
So my starting point for new users is, make some friends! You don't have to fully fill out your profile, though a simple sentence or two in your about me would be nice for narrowing out your interests/fandoms. You should try and friend request people with similar interests as you to see if you can bond! I recommend looking through groups, online users and recent blogs to see if you find anybody you would like to be friends with.
In the case of public blogs and groups (as well as forums), you don't have to wait for a friend request to be accepted to chat there! If you feel worried about finding friends, that can also be a great option. There are lots of dedicated communities in these circles for basically anything (Homestuck is one of the top fandoms here, for cod's sake), and on SpaceHey you don't have to worry about ragebait or right wing douchebags flooding those feeds since it has a mostly queer userbase. Stay safe and make sure to report anybody you see breaking the rules or making you/others uncomfortable!
Customizing your profile
Most users choose from the 10 top premade layouts to start, but therz are SO MANY possibilities. If you are already interested in programming, picking up CSS would be a great use of your time to make your own theme! As for those with less experience, making your own theme is easy with the tens of hundreds of tutorials on SpaceHey for layouts. Google "spacehey css tutorial" to see what I mean. Tons of premade code snippets you can customize to fit your needs.
You should also invest in starting a graphics collection! Graphics are these little decorative images you put on your profile, usually low res pixels. There are many types to choose from - stamps, blinkies, icons, and more! You can find these on Tumblr with a simple tag search and online by googling terms like "[graphic] hoard" or "[graphic] wall" for collections amassing even hundreds of graphics. You can also find some on the Layouts section but they're usually very distinct and overused and you might want to find something more personal that fits your style!
