The culture around making new friends

Hey all!

What makes someone make, maintain and progress with a friendship? In my personal experiences I find you need some diversity in the friendship dynamic and having a willingness to work through problems and to talk things out so that both parties already maintain traits that can benefit the relation that each share. 

What do you guys value in a friend generally? I find I like the willingness to know each other at a deep level and also be there to support one another in life.
