It certainly seemed that way. I first got online in 1999, started using Linux in 2000, and it was uphill from there. Around 2005 things looked so bright. Phones had keyboards, and our idea of a touchscreen device was a Palm. Devices may be much more powerful now, but they'll never be as cool again.
