Weezer - Blue Album | SLOP BLOG

Weezer - Blue Album: "I talked for hours to your wallet photograph... and you just listened"

heya,

the blue album isn't an album i'm new to at all, but i re-listened the other day and i wanted to write a review on this new blog :]

- i think i have to come right out of the gate and say that i LOVE this album. and weezer.

i just saw weezer live about six months ago, and it was so incredible

they played THE ENTIRE BLUE ALBUM IN FULL!! IT WAS SO GOOD

the songs on the blue album that i had forgotten about suddenly came back to me and ever since then i have enjoyed them so much more

this is an album that at this point is just near and dear to my heart

lets talk about what this album does so well and why it WORKS.

The Good Stuff!

- weezer's sound and genre fits the lyrics and themes of the album SO WELL

the sound of the blue album is so good. even though it was realeased in the good year of 1994, it still holds up so well today. the surf rock/alt rock feel of the album fits this vibe so well, every time i listen to it i feel like im listening to a couple geeks in a garage have a jam session, which is EXACTLY the goal here and it WORKS.

when i first listened to the blue album back in high school, i thought it was written so much more recently than it actually is, which attests to how good the music is. its so timeless and fun.

- LEGENDARY riffs

the riffs and motifs in this album are so incredible. from (although im sure you already know) BUDDY HOLLY! to say it aint so, to the sweater song, as well as most of the other songs, the lead guitar shines so much. these simple riffs and patterns are SO CATCHY and so effective with the sound and feel of the album

- came at an important time

at a time in the 90s when grunge, nu metal, and rap were at its peak, i believe that blue album  launched weezer into success (it was their debut album!) because of its fresh pop sound. it brought punchy, poppy songs into the rock scene in 1994. such a new sound compared to what was becoming popular!

NOT TO SAY** that i dislike 90s metal and rock, (my fave era of rock). I just think it brought a fresh perspective into that area of music, and people gravitated towards it because of how refreshing it felt.

- lyrically awesome and funny, topical

the lyrics through the blue album show a typical life of a geeky teenager in the 90s, exactly what weezer was made up of.

some funny songs, some hard hitting songs, there are so many topics covered here and they are all so intriguing and relatable.

weezer is so good at matching the lyrics to the sound and instrumentation in each of their songs. the vibes are all ON with this album and i love it.

review:

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 10/10!!!!!! ^u^

genuinely INCREDIBLE ALBUM. if you somehow haven't heard it by now, PLEASE LISTEN!

(keep in mind that i have also been listening to these songs for years and they are so beloved to me)

slop level:

☹ 3 slops/10 slops

i love this album so much. it's a 10 star album. but its somewhat sloppy and i admit that proudly. SLOP ISN'T A BAD THING! in this case, i think the slop of this album makes it really special. like i said before, it feels like listening to a 90s jam session in a garage. and it feels so good.

thank you for listening, dear reader! i feel weird having my second ever review on spacehey be a perfect score, but also i dont care because this is my blog and i rate things how i want

let me know of you have any feedback or review suggestions! ^^
