Hey!
I want to share with y'all my hand collected samples (only the dino teeth were bought) and some info or backstory on the samples! For legal reasons I had permission to collect these *wink wink* and I'll share tips on how I legally *wink* collect them! (NOTE THIS IS FOR NEW ENGLAND US ONLY)
Q. What should I bring?
I usually bring my camel back, doubles as storage! pants with lots of pockets, high density snacks, a protective item I.e. I bring a hunting knife or kukuri, bags for storage, a rock hammer, good clothes, first aid, a face cover (I use a bandana) and TONS OF WATER!
Q. Where do I go?
The best option for newbies is a paid for fossil park, they'll help you out you're guaranteed fossils and they're usually cheap! Fossil and rock shows are also great but more expensive... You can get permission to go on private property with creeks, look for shale, its crumbly dark in color and preserves fossils well as the critters are usually buried rapidly in an anoxic environment. Having permission to go on quarries is also a great place! some highway cut outs are also a good option just be safe!
Q. How do you find these places?
Friend of a Friend of a Friend. NEVER share your fave spots coords online. Go explore!
Q. What if I get in trouble
Be polite, apologize, be honest, you were fossil hunting, and never show your face there again! (give it a few years) Don't go often and don't take more than you need, usually people will leave you alone if you are kind, polite, and quiet.
Now on to the samples!
CORAL! ANTHOZOA MY BELOVED!
(above: My biggest indoor fossil! so many salt hoppers I counted over 15 both sides)
(above: Another salt hopper!)
(This one above is actually a pyrite deposit!)
(these above are shells!)
Let me know if you got question! :D

Low key jealous of the trilobite and the tooth. There’s a beach nearby where I often look for fossils in the summer! Maybe I’ll find some good ones this year I could share.

From an outsider's perspective, those are some good tips! I love the trilobite, it's so cute! Are they a common thing you can find when looking for fossils?

depends on where you live and where you look, in some parts of New England yes, others not so much...
