Nicholas' songs of the week: The Return

3 months is a lot longer than a week. Life happens: my headphones broke so Fang (my mp3 player) was out of the question for a while, started dating someone, got new headphones, and now the old woman is giving me issues with the USB. But I persist.

⌗. The Hustla - Victoria Beckham

My favorite spice girl. I just don’t understand why her first album wasn’t a success, and I also don’t understand why she scrapped this album (Open Your Eyes.) Banger after banger: if she had the right marketing? She would’ve had it all! “The Hustla” is sickenly sweet for an RnB track about turning men down, and it will stick to every nook and cranny of your brain (which is what I’m experiencing)

⌗. It’s Not Right But It’s Ok - Thunderpuss Mix - Whitney Houston

She was mad!! For the right reasons but she was mad!! There’s something the original lacks that the Thunderpuss mix hits just right—maybe it's danceability or maybe my brain likes more noise. Just an insane song all around.

⌗. DJ Play It - Sweet Female Attitude

UKG. That’s all there is to say really. UKG is one of the best inventions since maybe the potato (and Windows XP, but that comes 58 days after “In Person” by Sweet Female Attitude is released) It gets a bit repetitive, sure, but the pre-chorus makes it all worth it (to me, at least).

⌗. We Are The People - Empire Of The Sun

One of the best choruses to ever be made, and one of the best songs to ever exist, full stop. 

⌗. Shh - AFTERSCHOOL

This is a bit past my 2010 limit for my MP3 player, but I think I can excuse it!! It feels weird listening to it on anything that isn’t Winamp, and the production feels a bit?? Dated?? It feels older than 2014, but I mean that in such a good way. The bass??? The BRIDGE???? This is the kind of song you sacrifice someone to make, and if Mondo Grosso had to sacrifice someone to make this good of a song? Let him. Avex you are a bitch all of the time, but you are specifically a bitch for not putting this on streaming (outside Japan.)
