Case File #7421-B: The Crestwood Incident
Report submitted by Detective Michael R. Bennett
Date: October 21, 2023
SUBJECT: Unexplained Deaths at Crestwood Apartment Complex
Summary:
This report details the investigation into the deaths of six individuals at the Crestwood Apartment Complex, Unit 3B. The victims were discovered under circumstances that defy logical explanation. The case remains unresolved.
Initial Discovery:
On October 15, 2023, officers responded to a 911 call from a tenant in Unit 3C, directly above Unit 3B. The caller, a Ms. Ellen Watts, reported hearing "strange sounds" throughout the night—described as "scraping, whispering, and a low hum"—followed by a sudden scream at approximately 4:12 a.m.
Officers arrived at 4:27 a.m. and found the door to Unit 3B slightly ajar. Upon entry, they discovered the bodies of six individuals:
Jennifer Harris (32), resident of Unit 3B.
Christopher Harris (36), husband of Jennifer Harris.
Laura King (29), neighbor from Unit 3A.
Thomas King (31), husband of Laura King.
Unknown male (approx. 45, later identified as Robert Fields).
Unknown female (approx. 40, later identified as Miriam Fields).
Scene Observations:
The living room of Unit 3B showed signs of recent activity:
Furniture was overturned.
Deep gouges were present on the hardwood floor, radiating outward from the center of the room.
A blackened, circular scorch mark measuring six feet in diameter was found in the middle of the floor.
All six victims were seated in a rough circle around the scorch mark. Their postures were unnaturally rigid, heads tilted back, mouths agape as if mid-scream. Eyes were missing, with clean sockets devoid of blood.
No visible wounds or signs of struggle were present, apart from the missing eyes.
Interviews with Neighbors:
Ms. Ellen Watts (Unit 3C): Reported hearing sounds starting around 1:30 a.m. "It was like a scratching noise, almost rhythmic. Then whispers. I thought it was just the Harrises having another fight."
Mr. David Lyman (Unit 2B): Claimed he heard nothing unusual. When pressed, he added: "They’ve always been weird in 3B. Kept to themselves. But I saw them bring in a big old book last week, looked antique. Never seen anything like it."
Ms. Karen Torres (Unit 4A): Stated she saw a flickering light through the window of 3B around 2:45 a.m. "Like a candle, but… wrong. The shadows it made didn’t match the shapes in the room."
Evidence Collected:
The Book: Found on a coffee table in the living room. Bound in cracked leather with no discernible title. Pages were blank.
Residue Samples: A black, powdery substance was collected from the scorch mark and gouges. Preliminary analysis found no matches in existing databases.
Security Footage: The building’s hallway camera captured the Harrises and Kings entering 3B together at 10:15 p.m. on October 14. Robert and Miriam Fields were seen entering the building at 11:47 p.m. No footage exists of anyone leaving.
Autopsy Findings:
Dr. Leonard Collins conducted autopsies on all six victims. Key observations:
Cause of death: Undetermined
Tissue surrounding the eye sockets showed no signs of trauma, as though the eyes had been “cleanly removed” without cutting.
Brain scans revealed unusual neural activity at the time of death, resembling patterns associated with extreme fear.
Anomalous readings in all bodies: elevated electromagnetic levels in the chest cavity.
Supplementary Notes:
October 17, 2023: Officer Daniels, who was present at the scene, reported vivid nightmares involving whispering voices and flickering lights. Similar complaints have since been made by two other officers and the paramedics who handled the bodies.
October 19, 2023: The black residue sample in evidence storage spontaneously ignited, destroying the sample and damaging nearby items.
Conclusions:
This case presents several unexplained phenomena. The physical evidence, combined with witness testimonies and the condition of the victims, suggests involvement in activities beyond the scope of ordinary crime.
The book recovered at the scene remains blank. Efforts to identify its origin are ongoing. Experts in linguistics and anthropology have been consulted.
Given the nature of the deaths, further investigation is recommended with the assistance of specialists in esoteric studies.
Investigator’s Final Note:
I’ve been a detective for 15 years. I’ve seen horrible things. But this case… it stays with you. There’s something in that apartment—something we can’t explain.
The book keeps appearing in my dreams. I see its pages turning, strange symbols shifting like they’re alive. Sometimes, I hear whispers that sound like they’re coming from just behind me.
I’ve requested a transfer.
End report.
