30 years of Earthbound

Last year marked the 30^th anniversary of Earthbound in Japan. Or, of course, Mother 2 as it is known there.

This year marks the 30^th anniversary of Earthbound in the US!

I first played Earthbound many, many years ago,on a 6^th grade's summer. It was a very boring summer such that I cannot remember much of it, but I do remember this game. I had not finished it back then, I found it pretty hard, and I still have to finish it to this day because of time constraints. I have started playing it a while back again from the beginning. Although it’s been over 7 years, the bits I had to replay I remembered as if I had never put the game down. A testament to what a memorable experience this game is.

Although many modern indie RPGs have been inspired by it during the last decade until today, this game shall never be replaced so I encourage any fans of the aforementioned genre to this give this game I try. It is such a quirky and sincere adventure, unlike any other… I find myself fascinated with everything surrounding it, from development to, to marketing to the cultural impact it had fandoms…
