It's a fairly common issue with the site tbh. It does actually upload it, but it wont show on your end for whatever odd reason. Give it a bit of time and you'll see it.

well, *I* can see ur profile pic for one. i am also super new, but wat fixed it 4 me was clearing my cache and history, which worked for some reason. i dunno, im not a tech wizard or anything, but datz wat worked 4 me
