Ok I mean I think it’s fairly obvious (if u listen to the lyrics) that it’s abt a girl who met a guy at vacation Bible school and they hook up and he basically ghosts her and she still loves/misses him
If you listen to the instrumental of the first part of the first verse, it’s very similar to the melody of the chorus, which ties the song together musically but on a storytelling level I feel like it foreshadows what happens later (him ghosting her) and arguably also hints at the fact he never loved her, he just wanted to hook up with her. (Also reinforced by the contrast between the “Bible study, we were buddy-buddy” lyric and the later “and I tried to call you desperately but boy you wouldn’t add me back” lyric)
Cue the ICONIC chorus!!! I feel like she’s singing from the perspective of at least a few years after the actual events of the song since "Now it's fine because I'm a whore / And I sleep with guys just for fun and drugs but / Sometimes I stay inside and wonder why" make it feel like it’s something that happened a while ago that she’s still not over,,
I feel like the song also has some interesting implications abt the singer’s (idk if it’s irl Ayesha) Christianity. Originally I thought that she’d turned away from religion (“sometimes I wonder if Jesus is above me making sure we’ll meet again” + the next line being them meeting again and him ignoring her, ie Jesus will not be facilitating a romantic re-meeting that sparks a long-term relationship like she seems to want), BUT in the bridge she says “and someday god will make you pay for this,” so I think that she’s still at least somewhat religious.
However, I think she’s in the process of becoming an atheist, since she also says(sings) in the bridge “and one day I get to blame myself for this / I can blame it on selfishness / that you never really wanted my love” which I feel like she might’ve been blaming god/jesus for how things turned out, first because it was a while between their initial hookup and when she saw him again at the mall (dont have solid evidence for this but "sometimes I wonder if Jesus is above me" makes me think that there was a long enough time between the two events that she'd think about it every once in a while) and in that time she felt frustrated abt not being able to see him again. but then when she sees him and he ignores her at the mall, she really thinks back on the hookup (the repition of the part of the song where they hook up, especially since the lyrics are the exact same as they were originally) and i think it's implied that she realizes he never really liked her. BUT she clearly still loves him (see: the chorus), so she's going to find a way to blame herself for how things turned out.
One last thing ik it’s a silly ad lib but “or my backdoor” lowkey solidifies how much of a scumbag this guy is… like he genuinely didn’t care abt her at all even in a sexual sense (“and my hair stay teased as im on my knees” basically confirms she blew him) n he literally didn’t do ANYTHING in return for her-- "you never really wanted my love" + the other lyrics about her trying to call him imply she was trying to reach him so they could stay connected and start a long-term relationship, so "or my backdoor" kind of implies she offered/wanted it n he said no...
uhh to conclude banger song sad story thanks for reading i should be doing homework
