modern gaming kinda idk

I ramble a lot

Alright so, this is something I think about a lot cause it's just so common. I really hate that every modern online shooter has you playing as named characters instead of just a normal random nameless soldier person. Cod being one of the worst offenders imo. I miss when I was just a guy. Not fuckin Mr Smith or SNOOP DOGG or some shit. It really dampers my enjoyment of games like cod bc it just makes it so hard to take it seriously. Obviously I know it's fake (duh), but tonally when it tries to convey itself as serious, how am I supposed to take it serious when snoop dogg and the Scream guy are running around with weed and unicorn guns?? It's really dumb

Everything is just so silly and consumer driven it's frustrating. "hey! look! your fave character is in our game! spend money!" exhausting. I do be playing smaller less mainstream games more often.

MAN. When this happened to battlefield with 2042, I was honestly pissed. Although I missed all the games after 4, I was kinda excited to get back to battlefield with 2042!! Then, I played the beta and learned there's characters with silly abilities. Classes didn't matter anymore. Guns were unrestricted. The beta obviously didn't work very well either battlefield has a history of that lol.

Honestly, I think the only games that pull it off well are things like Fortnite, and Smash Bros. I miss when gaming took itself a little more seriously when appropriate. Got distracted and my train of thought was lost so guess I'll end it here.
