Homestuck Classpecting

Classpecting!

Okay, either you know it, or you dont. And if you don't... Hi! I'm Ezra and I've devoted an ungodly amount of time to it. I do want to say that EVERYTHING I'm about to talk about are things that I have theorized/agreed with. Taking a little bit of this and a little bit of that in regards to other's posts and fitting it into my own framework for how I think the Classpecting systems work. Don't take it as if I'm spouting cannon ! As we should all know, Homestuck is bad about what's canon and what isn't, anyways.

Classpecting! What does Classpect even mean?

Classpect, in simple terms, is a portmanteau of "Class" and "Aspect". But lets dig further, what are classes and aspects?
Aspects
Lets start with Aspects. Aspects are typically thought of as ways that a character/you interact with the world around you. What aspect of your life stands out the most to you? Is your life steeped in constant despair, binary, oppression or harsh rules? You may be a Doom player. Are you full of joy and whimsy, while being a tad gullible? Are you not really questioning of your surroundings as you go along with whatever system is in place? You may be a Hope player! Each Aspect has a counterpart to eachother, and there is twelve of them in total.

Time - Space - What makes up this reality. Creation, essentially
Breath - Blood - freedom vs ties
Light- Void - knowledge vs secrecy
Heart - Mind - emotions vs logic
Hope - Rage - belief vs disbelief
Life - Doom - life vs death
Classes
Classes are how you interact with your aspect. Do you tend to self-sabotage your relationships by being too flaky? You might be a Bard of Blood. Do you find yourself always cheering up your friends, being the one they come to for a pep talk to get their spirits back up? You might be a Sylph of Hope. Like Aspects, there are twelve Classes, each of them a counterpart to another, however these all also belong to two different subgroups, passive and active. For the sake of this blog post, I will only talk about the one classification that I tend to lean towards and believe in the most, which is becoming more and more popular/accepted

Active - Passive | Role
Witch - Sylph | To Manipulate
Page - Heir | To Become
Maid - Knight | To Serve
Thief - Rouge | To Steal
Mage - Seer | To Know
Prince - Bard | To Destroy

Putting them together is kind of like a puzzle, and Classpecting oneself tends to take a lot of self-analyzing and retrospection. Sometimes classpecting yourself means coming to terms/highlighting aspects of yourself that youre not that fond of.

For example, I'm an Heir of Rage. I embody and inherit Rage. Rage entails disorder, disobedience. As opposed to giving a blind "yes" to everything in front of me, I am extremely overcritical of it. I'm stubborn about what I do believe in. Think Anarchy in a bottle, not to be edgy.

Is that all there is to me? Of course not!! But it's kind of like a Hogwarts house/Zodiac Sign. I find that the best way to go about it to highlight important parts of your life/personality that you think stand out and go from there.

If you managed to read this far, tysm for giving my entry a read! Let me know if you think I should dedicate a single post to all the classes and a single post to all the aspects, or if I should dedicate a post to them as pairings! Like I said, classpecting is my bread and butter, I've got loads of information I would love to spit out about it. I know at one point I want to do a post about my character classpect headcannons! Let me know if i should do that by franchise or if i should throw them all in one post, too. Well, 'till next time!
