SO idk if I've mentioned on here before, but my brother and I have been doing a media trade-off situation, basically movie nights, where I make him watch Dr. Who (2005) and he makes me watch Gundam and it's amazing and soso awesome!! We both get that nerd dopamine hit that someone is watching the thing we like, and I think he's been enjoying doctor who a lot more than he expected.
He already got me to watch some Gundam stuff before this arrangement; War in the Pocket was the very first Gundam thing I watched and it's still my favorite tbh. He also made me watch Thunderbolt which I honestly remember veryy little of. And also an array of non gundam mecha stuff the majority of which I've adored :33
So far we've watched the 3 movies of the og series (I loved them!!), Stardust Memories (Not the most interesting plot but absolutely gorgeous animation), Z Gundam (I loved it also!!! Both it and the original series have very strong endings in very different ways- we explicitely watched the show and not the movie cut of Z bc my brother said they changed the ending), anddd ZZ Gundam (Did not like it, neither does my brother, but it has some good mecha designs and the first opening starts with "It's Not an Anime!"/"Anime ja Nai!" which is STUPID and BEAUTIFUL) Char's Counter Attack is next on the list and I'm so excited because the animation looks absolutely stunning ohmistars! - To my knowledge we've been watching the UC timeline in the timeline's order, not in release order, idk if my brother omitted anything yet but ik he said we weren't gonna watch some stuff
My favorite mechas in like, any of the mecha show not just Gundam are the chonky ones I love me a chonky robot (acguy as an example of cute chunky robot)
For Doctor Who, we've been watching all of Nuwho and just finished watching Angels Take Manhatten!! This means we're like half a season away from my favorite doctor!!!! He said early on that he couldn't imagine liking any of the doctors more than 9, and I am just,, really hoping that he likes 12 argg. My brother isn't a very "quirky" person and he very clearly dislikes any of the super silly stuff (eg: timey wimey) that was present in Tennant's run but absolutely swarming in Smith's and onwards so idk how he'll feel abt that, plus there are some episodes in 12's run that even I can't defend. But for real, 12 had some more of the sarcastic rude edge that 9 have while also having 3 seasons to attach to him AND some of the most emotionally driven scenes/episodes in dr who. Which might be enough for him to take the #1 spot :B
Idk I am trying to blog more often, and I am very much a homebody so the most I have to talk about is media, I might make a post abt music I'm into rn as well as some more updates abt the stuff I've watched. We've already agreed that when we finish Dr. Who I'm getting him to watch Twin Peaks, I had his watch the pilot whenever in 2019 I was first obsessed with it but that's all he's seen.
RIP David Lynch, you were an inspiration to many and one of the most brilliant artists I've ever seen
