My Most Prized Possession

Everyone has an object they they cherish most. A gem, a game, jewelry. I’m rather materialistic. I have many possessions that I cherish. From childhood, I’ve enjoyed collecting Pokemon cards (what 90s kid hasn’t?). This past week, McDonald’s celebrated Pokemon’s 25th anniversary and every kids meal came with 4 Pokemon cards. Fortunately, my sister and I share this same hobby of collecting these cards. We would get 4 happy meals and split the food amongst ourselves. (The meals themselves were just the right amount of food for us. We don’t order more than we need to. Actual kids should enjoy this event too.) My sister and I share a portfolio of Pokemon cards. (We decided to combine our cards long ago when my interest of collecting them waned due to the ridiculous amount of holographic trainer cards I’d get. ) Seeing all the cards that my sister and I collected from McDonald’s filled me with happiness and nostalgia. This Mercury Retrograde has brought out a lot of reminders from the past such as the Pokemon card event and now this MySpace replica. I’ve been having fun looking through reminders of the past. However, there is this one thing that popped out amongst my many possessions. The thing I value most. Protected in a hardcover case was a water damaged holographic Charizard Pokemon card. This was the only 1st gen Charizard card I’ve owned. I’d never trade or replace it. Not even for one that’s in perfect mint condition. It’s too valuable to me. I remember when I received it. At the time, I had a Dark Typhlosion card. That was my most prized possession at the time. I loved that Typhlosion. It was the most cherished thing I had. But why would I trade a card that meant everything to me for a water damaged Charizard? It’s not about the value of the card. It’s who the card belonged to.
