First time playing an isometric retro rpg, I love it. Never got far in the 3rd game due to my constant procrastination to beat games. I'm forcing myself to fight against my nature of staring endlessly at my collection of games, not playing a single one, or ending up falling back into playing Cyberpunk for the billionth time. And I'm glad I am especially with this I.P
I've only played 10 hours in the game and made it to the mines, which to most season players of this game or genre is slow. As stated before it's my first retro isometric RPG title and my fucking god does it show. I didn't bother with tutorials as I pretty much understand how to PLAY. BUT I wasn't aware of the motherfucking death system, which yes, you can change (I barely found out yesterday.) BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW EASY THESE MOTHERFUCKERS DIE. AND I'M LOOKING AT YOU RASAAD. Like, Jesus fucking Christ my guy, you're a whole martial artists, you're a monk type kung fu type shit religious zealot. WHY THE FUCK IS YOUR HEALTH 8 HP?? I want your ass to be on some IP Man Wing Chun type shit. Crouching Tiger hidden Jet Li type shit. WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU GETTING ASS BLASTED BY ARROWS AND SHIT.
My annoyance with Rasaad set aside, the game has made me fucking actually laugh. I can see that this the humor they aim for in their titles later on, especially in Dragon Age as it's made by the same studio. The random dead pan English humor just works. I don't if this was intended to be funny. But, a situation happened where a man was telling my group, a woman was looking for guards as she's a famous singer or some shit. Well, turns out dumb bitch just wanted to use us to kill someone she wanted to make a transaction with, I said, bitch you fucking stupid, told her no, she tried to merc me but I had that motherfucking KLING KLING on me.
Then the man who told us about her was basically like "Oh sorry about, well looks like I'm out of a job, mind if I join up with you guys?" And of course I said yuuuuuup, he was with us for a bit before I switched him out with Rasaad as his backstory interesting, which, to be fair, I didn't give Bard boi enough time to tell me his but eh, fuck it, martial artist Zealot it is.
Now the mechanics of the game are pretty easy, as I learned how to play it from Dragon Age, despite me being last year old when finding out you were supposed to PAUSE and strategize. I didn't care for it in Dragons Age but for some reason like it in BG. Maybe I just needed to GIt Gud but I like it in this game. Makes me schizophrenically aware of every area I explore. Especially with the perma death for companions, which isn't exactly perma death as I recently found out. But I'm too lazy to go all the way back to magic priest man to rez the dead.
So far, I really love the game, I like my companions despite me not knowing them too well, or knowing if the game explores them well. It's shit like this that makes me want to get into DnD and makes me wish I knew people into it when I was younger. So far the game has a high rating in my book.
