I MISS Y2K10

I KNOW I WAS LIKE 6 OR 10 OR WHATEVER BUT Y2K10-Y2K14 WERE THE BEST (and most traumatic) YEARS OF MY LIFE. FASHION WAS AT ITS PEAK (loved scene fashion but I grew up in a christian household where that type of fashion was considered for the freaks, gays and devil worshippers), MUSIC WAS AT ITS PEAK (loved ke$ha, Pierce the Veil / Sleeping With Sirens, but it was considered "white people music" and I come from a black household and predominantly black neighborhood), LITERATURE WAS AT ITS PEAK (haven't finished My Immortal but I plan to and was not made aware of the "Milk Fic" until seventh grade), LINGUISTICS WERE UNIVERSAL (y3ah, t0ta11y, lolz XD), IT COULDN'T GET ANY BETTER. IT ALLLLLLLLL WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE. MAINSTREAM FASHION BEGAN TO LOSE ITS INDIVIDUALITY UNTIL AFTER QUARANTINE HIT. AND I STAND BY THAT STATEMENT.

Anyways, there was a Y2K10 party tonight and here's what I probably would've worn if I had went 😭 I thought it would be fun, but it was too cold to go out like this, that's the only downside of it being winter and snow actually appearing.

ke$ha

When I heard about it and considered going, I racked my brain for any memory of like... anything I owned that I could've DIYed or scrambled up to do a 2010 scene emo look (but I broke my tiara and misplaced all my kandi).  I looked up references and most of them had a few things in common: tee with graphic or band design, shorts / skirt with pattern, studded belt layers, striped socks if not fishnets, boots / converses or vans, arm warmers / fingerless gloves, studded bracelet / kandi, piercing, memorable hair accessory / hat, choker / tie.

outfit full

My first week back on campus. I have no idea where anything is. Except for my middle school MCR shirt, worn out choker, boots, striped socks, fishnet shirt, hot topic y2k hat, the two belts I found at home and the sleeves of a striped shirt I cut off to make arm warmers one time. It is severely lacking in color, but ykw. It was giving.. something, idk. I cut the neckline of the shirt off and opened up the sleeves to be more triangular. The shirt used to be pretty straight and fitted and it bothered me so much because I don't like flat shirts, I do prefer my clothes larger, but it's like doing that and poking some holes throughout the front opened it up enough where it comes off like a dress now. Which is kind of insane. I layered it over a white fishnet that I got from I think holister? I wouldn't know, I also cut the neckline of that shirt up for a previous project. And under both of those things is my chest binder, I thought it would look good because it has that thick strap in place of the trademark spaghetti strap that is now visible because of the open neckline. I had white shorts on under. Since it was cold, I thought I could cheat it with nude stockings and striped socks over. Then I turned the black and gray "arm warmer" sleeves into "leg warmers" to go over my platform boots. Stripes on stripes, yeah. I topped it off with my spiked choker and two belts layered crossing each other to make them interesting in form on my body.

boots

I liked how the sleeves covered the mouth of the boots. It was cute, would do again. And to be honest, I was not doing make up. Too tired for all that. Maybe if I do a more scene outfit because this definitely turned out more emo with the lack of color. Man, I combed my hair into a fringe too but my bangs just wouldn't cooperate so I put the hat on and called it a day.

face

I can do better. I KNOW I CAN. And I will get another chance. When emo night comes around, I need to be ready. I WILL BE READY. They don't make or play white girl party music like they used to.
