every time i look at youtube, i am flooded with recommended videos that are all titled something like "The Slug Girl Controversy" "The Fleebzo Situation Keeps Getting Worse" "TikTok's Favorite Rapping Dentist (won't stop lying for clout)" "So I Guess the Singing Pickle Kid is Racist Now???" "The Unending Hypocrisy of Cozy Coop Official's Tweets". these videos are easy to pick out because they're only allowed to have one of two thumbnails:
- an extremely unflattering photo of a person, usually with the contrast cranked as high as possible. their eyes are usually blacked out; the background is usually a scary red or black
- a screenshot of some tiktok, and there's a 20-year-old with a moustache and/or a blond twink in the foreground. they're staring vaguely into the camera with an exaggerated perplexed or disgusted expression
to be clear, i do not want to watch these videos. i do not care about these videos, or the videos being "commentated" on. i do not want to hear about every single internet lolcow or successful bait video or new trendy grift. im not judging anyone who enjoys this brand of commentary video, but theyre not for me.
but youtube keeps INSISTING that id love these videos and i dont know how to convince it otherwise. i know i like to throw on video essays in the background sometimes, so maybe that's the problem?? do i have to delete every Defunctland video ive ever watched from my history? should i make an entirely new account? should i stop mindlessly watching youtube and read an actual book for a change?
