The Gathering are one of the most important Goth/Death Doom Metal bands from the 90s, thanks to their use of keyboards and weird melodic approach.
However, this is the only purely Death Doom Metal record, their later record will focus more on the Gothic Metal sound and then they decided to change again and play a sort of "Alternative Rock" music.
So as you can tell, they're not a coherent band, they always change and try new stuff, i'm a big fan of this record, Always..., since i love their more "extreme" side.
This album feels truly unique and almost ethereal, the song structures are uncommon and the guitar is low and and obscure, in contrast to the synths.
The growl is deep and crushing.
Best songs: The Mirror Waters, Subzero and Gaya's Dream.
Might not be for everyone but... lemme know what you think!
I love sharing albums like this one.
