Oh my god, guys. I just found the BEST job opening on Indeed.com. Right now I’m employed as a courtesy aide at a nursing home. I’m supposed to take my state exam next Friday and pass the skills portion. There’s a written part and a skills portion. Really do not like this job. Crazy because I FUCKING LOVE elderly people. The call lights be crazy. Same residents being so needy, always having to go to the bathroom. Some bitchy coworkers. Sad little residents who have nothing better to do than be rude. Residents who are more “there” in terms of cognitive ability thinking they’re the only one here. Family members thinking their relative needs top priority at all times.
Just do not like conversing with people. I’m not catching on. People are catching on I to am not all “there.” I’m trying to present myself well but, nah. I just like the hours. If I were another person, I would have very much thrived in this job. I appreciate the long hours. The residents. I do love them, I still care about people. I just don’t like being responsible for the likelihood of others, you know?
Every time I’m depressed, I search for job options. Some job options in the medical care I’ve seen:
- Medical laboratory scientist
- Medical elaboration technologist
- Sterile processing technician
- Lab technician
- Radiologic technologist
Omg radiologic technologist is sooooo what I want to do. Pay is less than registered nurses, less job opportunities, less room to move up, but less responsibilities. You can get 8-5, or 3 12s. I hope to find jobs with 3 12s. When you’re done with the day, you’re DONE. You can clock out and not worry about anything until your next scheduled work day.
You just gotta be quick with it when you’re positioning the patients and getting the scans out of the way… No dealing with patients or having to stay extra hours. Economically, is it good? I would KILL to be a veterinarian but that’s just too many years of schooling (10!) for a job so low in demand with low pay. Radiologic technologists and radiologists are radically different but in case I get sick with the job I can spend thirteen years of schooling to be a radiologist. Pay is WAY more than rad tech or veterinarian.
Ahhh…. Typical ole me with the avoidant attachment style.
Anyway, about that job opportunity… So I checked Indeed.com about an hour ago. Before that I was looking into different career paths… Maybe hands-on work is more my stride. Also did a bit of research into radiologic technologist. I found a job opening posted four days ago from a food manufacturing facility. $16.00 an hour. I get paid $10.25 right now, and if I pass that state exam I’ll get paid $16.50.
This job has day shift and night shift. It’s a packer job.
Job experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred (I have it) Basic reading and math skills required
Candidates with no manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply(!)
Job responsibilities:
Packing and loading products into various containers
Perform quality checks on all products. Count products.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Oh, and I’ll just copy and paste the work hours. I’m surprised they put the hours in the descriptions, because most jobs I find near me on Indeed.com don’t!
Multiple Shifts to consider:
1 Shift 5:30am- 1:30pm - Monday - Friday
2 Shift 1:30pm – 9:30pm - Monday- Friday
3 Shift 9:30pm – 5:30am- Monday-Friday
Continental A and C 5:30am - 5:30pm
Continental B and D 5:30pm - 5:30am
**Continental Shifts will work 4 days one week, then 3 days the next
OVERTIME AS NEEDED
Job is advertised as ‘If you’re looking for a job change, apply today!”
Omgggg. I think I died and woke up in Heaven. It’s probably too good to be true. It’s literally the ONLY good job near me that doesn’t require a college degree. It’s 45 minutes away from me, though.
Dudeeeeeee. $16 an hour?! For tasks that don’t involve having people’s lives in your hands? I’m looking for an escape. I’m going to apply for this job. I hope I’ll get it. Cuz if I don’t, I’m probably going to move to Georgia with my mom and get a job at a hospital. Anywhere that isn’t a nursing home. I want a job where I don’t deal with the same clients long-term. A hospital setting would be better. Apologies if I sounded bitter here
