guys i just wrote in my report on human hearing the smartest sentances i've ever written like it's not even funny what

"Soundwaves are longitudinal waves. They need a material to travel through, like air molecules or water. Therefore you can’t hear any sound in empty space. Sound is a type of energy made up of vibrations, when an object moves it makes the surrounding molecules move, bumping into the molecules close to them which creates a chain reaction of compressions, causing them to vibrate as well. As this process continues, transporting through the medium without the particles themselves moving along with the wave. 

The speed of sound varies and depends on on the medium’s state (gas, liquid, solid)

In gases the sound travels faster in denser gases because the particles are closer together, making it easier for particles to travel through.

In liquids, sound moves faster than in gases because liquids are denser and more elastic, letting the vibrations travel more efficiently. 

Sound travels the fastest in solids because the particles the sound travels through are much more packed together and strongly connected, which lets vibrations move even quicker."
