Can we talk about how romanticized “Girl Interrupted” is? It's not just a movie about girls who are “half crazy”, smoke and are pretty, that would be something several teenagers could relate to. It's a movie that talks about REAL disorders and family or period issues, since the era the movie is based on matters because of how little mental health was talked about, especially if it was about women, you have to stop romanticizing the movie as if it was amazing to be in a psychiatric hospital and start watching it seriously and understand how important mental health is.

im sick and tired of people romanticizing movies and shows about addictions and mental health. the way that drugs were suddenly cool after euphoria?? stuff like this will just happen over and over again, its insane!
It is as if they were not aware of what drugs really are

i feel similar about some of the virgin suicides fans. They use lux or cecilia as an image of a beautiful deranged girl online like on tumblr, although they are kind of reinforcing the romanticized image the boys in the book/movie gave them

Just like how people romanticized the movie "thirteen" it's literally a cycle all over again. :/

You're so right. Sometimes I listen to people talk about this movie and wonder if they were actually WATCHING the movie. It does a good job depicting what it's like to be mentally ill, how does any of it seem fun and cool?
Frrr it's not like it's the teenage dream
