Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

My Brainworms made me write this. Someone please evict the damn things my head is casu marzu

Blood, Fire, Death and more.

about none other than my favorite mythical creatures of course! Though, I don't think they should be limited to myth... but thats aanother thing...

Both of my favorite creatures have been mentioned all around the world since ancient times, so I won't be discussing each instance in detail on a singular post. I'll just ramble about the things I specifically know and Love about them.

Exhibit I: Dragons

Dragons are an enigma. Some see them as benevolent, wise beings that guide others. In celtic and east asian Mythology they are revered for their divine nature. Hell,  Psalm 18:8 Describes the abrahamic God as follows: "smoke rose from his nostrils, consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it" yet, others view them as evil or maligned, or at least terrifying and/or destructive. In the very same breath, humans described satan, the enemy of God as follows: "The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray." or even in norse mythology Nidhoggr, who devours the souls of the dead.(oh hey ye olde alduin...) what we can conclude from this, is power is either something that inspires awe or fear. Dragons are the embodiment of raw power, terrifying and beautiful. Every mythos from asia to europe and every religion from abrahamic to even the temple of black light..

See the lyrics for the song "Black dragon" written by Jon Nodtveidt for Dissection, who is affiliated with such...

"we invoke thee, Black Dragon of Chaos
We evoke thee, O mighty Dragon force

Awaken now from your aeonic slumber -- rise up from the abyss

Dragon of forgotten lore - let your Chaos rule forever more"

which is a reference to a theistic satanism deity known as Azerate, the dragon mother, and amalgamation of 11 anticosmic gods.

said lyrics also reference various dragons and serpentine monsters in mythology, or deities depicted as such in works of fiction (tiamat cough)

(and if you really wanna get technical, theyre still considered dragons since the old words for dragon "draco" and "drakon" mean serpent... more on that in a bit.)

"Lotan - Raise your seven heads and let the ancient ones rule again"

"Apep - Dragon of devouring darkness, supreme ruler of emptiness, open up your black diamond eyes and rejoice as Ra's creation dies"

"Jormungand - Lord of the poisonous sea, fulfull the twilight prophecy...  Unleash your hatred upon all life, and kill this world in the final strife"

"Tiamat - Queen of the formless deep - The eleventh seal is now broken... Hark to your children's invocations and awaken from your dreadful sleep..."

"Leviathan - Tortorous one, by your Wrathful Chaos our war will be won..."

"Typhon, Lord of dark desires, purify us with your smokeless fires"

And now another fascinating tidbit, if not yet another reach by my brainworms: back to the point of the word "dragon" meaning serpent... the seraphim, highest order of angel, their name means "fiery serpent" and yknow what else means fiery serpent? dragons. This is where I truly began to wonder if ancient peoples were onto something...

Alas, we can't exactly ask them, can we?

Exhibit II: Vampires

In the old world where humans were simpler and bound further by the doctrines of the church, Vampires were especially feared for humans believed once they took your blood, they took your eternal life along with it. Before their appearances in media as beautiful, seductive members of the aristocracy, with their silk lined coffins and capes and castles, they struck fear into the hearts of those who heard their names. And yes, there were many. "Lamia, Stregoica, Dhampir, Aswang, etc"

a very interesting and bloody fact:

Leviticus 17:11 says, for the soul of the flesh is is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul.  Yes, They were feared especially by the church for preying on humans and stealing their souls.

Not to mention that their undead nature goes against the very doctrines they teach (such as the dead only coming back to life at the end of time, or that they cannot contact or interact with the living).

And according to my brainworms all screaming in unison like a hellish choir, mayhaps they viewed the blood drinking as a mockery of the holy communion?

and now for my brainworms to reach the climax of their cacophonous cries as I speak about one of my favorite historical figures, none other than the infamous namesake of count dracula himself...

Vlad the impaler.

We all know about Vlad Tepes, Vlad Dracula, Vlad Drakul,  Son of the dragon, etc

Lemme take us back to dragons for a second.

"drakul" is a tribute to his father who was part of an order of Christian knights that referenced the tale of st George and the dragon. Though, a more accurate interpretation to his bad habit of turning people into kebabs (and the unproven rumors of him dipping his bread in their blood) is the translation: "the devil"

Explains why my brainworms long for me to get a tapestry of him to hang in my bedroom o-o

Another famous Vampire my little squirmy skull inhabitants adore?

Elizabeth Bathory

Along with Vlad, Elizabeth Bathory is yet another figure with a namesake taken into art, this time Via Black metal(a genre that pleases my limbless brainlurkes greatly.) with a very important band to the genre and owner of one of the black thrones in the pioneers of the first wave (and ultimately the genre as a whole,) Bathory. (Venom wrote a song about her too. pretty neat right?

Known for her *ahem* questionable beauty regimen of turning the life juice of various young women into her personal bath and body works shopping haul, (those numbers racking up in possibly the hundreds btw.) she's gained noteriety in the horror genre as well. See? It ain't just Vlad babes.

Sorry if this blog came off a little 3edgy5me, I've just been genuinely interested in stuff like this since I was very young, and I'm not trying to project some oh "I'm so dark and mysterious for knowing all of this" vibe from it. Because I'm not. I'm literally just fried from years of horror, metal and gothic/macabre media QwQ I just needed a place to yap.
