what i do to feel more alternative ⭑.ᐟ - tips n tricks by a random emo guy

  my first and foremost rule... CHOOSE A STYLE THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOY!!!! who cares if it's a style that other people consider weird? fuck their opinions! i can promise you when i say that it wont matter in the long run. being alternative has made me so much happier than i ever was, and being alternative is quite literally all about being different! 

that being said, here's the rest of what i have to say! 

★ - if the space is customizable, customize it! if it's an online space then use any option there is for customization. that's actually the reason i originally got SpaceHey, the layouts feature stuck out to me! if it's an IRL object, you can shove a shit ton of stickers on it, draw on it, hot glue random objects/fabric to it, whatever your little heart desires. i have a jacket that i handmade patches for and sewed to it, i'd say it adds to my general vibe but i definitely need to update it. (you can find photos of this sweater on a previous blog of mine!) 

★ - definitely use inspiration for most things you do! if you have pinterest it's pretty easy to find outfitspo, i use pinterest for my makeup too! if your style is anything like mine, then it can be difficult to find something thats ACTUALLY like it. emo, goth, y2k, etc. a lot of those substyles get confused for other things, being an emo this can reallyy suck for me sometimes! but as long as YOU know what it is, keep scrolling until you find something that fits you. this also means you dont have to fit into a label, if you see something you like but nobody can label it? who cares! it's just you, man. and somewhat continuing from this one... 

★ - pinterest boards! there's nothing quite as satisfying as filling up a space with hundreds of images of your own style. or sometimes it doesn't even have to be your own style, you can have other styles, as of the time this is posted i have a mcbling type of layout, yeah, i'm a fucking emo! i have a scene board aswell. so dont really limit yourself to one thing. 

★ - DECORATIONS!!!! as someone who currently does not have a room, let me tell you... i would love to be decorating a room currently. what's better than having your very own space for your very own style? nothing like it! i used to be a sorta decora kei person and i had  wall covered in tons of trinkets and lisa frank stickers, i may not be decora anymore but that is still my pride and joy. too bad i dont have the wall, but i still have pictures to enjoy of it! 

★ - this one can be harder for some people, and a lot, if not all the stuff im even saying on this blog is necessary but it's just what i like to do. dying my hair often! i'm actually currently overdue for a new hairdying session, but this is soo fun to me. in my life i can remember going blonde in 5th grade, pink and blue in 6th, i went purple and pink split dye in 7th, and black and blonde split dye in 7th! my hair's currently black-ish, i dyed it black for the second time, but it's faded out by now. i plan to dye it black with red bangs! so yeah, definitely dont be afraid to do a bright or unique color. but it's alright if you cant, that doesn't make you any less alternative! 

★ - thrifting! you'll probably hear this often but fast fashion is extremely unethical! also, over time sites like shein and temu have gotten more expensive. it's better to go to any local thrift stores and buy stuff secondhand. i get a lot of thrift stores wont always have good stuff but it doesn't hurt to look. i once found a cool studded belt at my local goodwill, i didnt buy it because i already had one like it though. if you dont have any stores nearby you, theres also online places to buy secondhand stuff! people often talk about depop and vinted, i'd recommend them! they have some really kewl stuff. while on the topic of alternatives to fast fashion, DIY! i did mention this before but upcycling old clothes also does good. i get it if you dont have good materials, but try to see what you can do with what you got first <3
