GK:MOVIE — Pan de Salawal (2018)

First of all, I wanna preface this with an introduction.

Hi, I'm thinking of posting a series of blogs about my reviews of movies/books/songs or anything that I can think of reviewing or have enough knowledge about to review. This series will be called Gaano Kaganda (translation: How Good/Beautiful), which will be shortened into GK:[Type of media]. This may or may not be a regular thing (hopefullly, it is), I'm just really practicing being visible online that's why I thought of doing this.

Anyway, moving on to the film.

(It would help a lot if an upload image feature will be added to SpaceHey, because I have to do a bunch of extra steps just to link photos on here. It's quite the hassle.)

Today, we're talking about Pan De Salawal (the Sweet Taste Of Salted Bread And Undies). That's apparently the English title (or subtitle?). A 2018 film written and directed by Che Espiritu.

I debated whether or not I should include the film's summary here, being that I watched it without knowing any context and was still able to thoroughly enjoy the film. Anyway, if you need more convincing, here's the summary:

Aguy, a special little homeless girl, travels the Philippines curing the afflicted with her healing powers until she meets Sal, a sick old man she is unable to cure. Their unlikely friendship is forever changed by their journey together.

GK? Pretty good.

I cried, but that isn't a hard feat to achieve. The premise is interesting. A little weird, not in a bad way, but the movie made sense. Do I like it? Personally, I'm not a fan of these types of storylines. I did like some storytelling elements though. But overall, am I fan? I can't say I am. I probably won't give it a second watch, unless I watch it with other people, if they suggested to watch it.

Additional notes that won't be included in the future, same as the preface section, a.k.a everything that's centered except the blurb: The formatting of this review just came up as I wrote it so it's probably a little rough, but for clarity's sake, and also for future reference, GK will be formatted this way in the future:

Film introduction and summary here. And if there is anything I need to preface or if I need to put a disclaimer, it would also be included in this section.

GK? (Is it good—if so, how good—or not?)

And then this is where my actual review would be.
