TikTok banning

I don't mind Tiktok being gone. I never used it and it seemed like a degrading cesspit when it was around. My issue comes in with the fact that it was banned by the government. I am worried about what precedent this could set. If we let the government ban websites in the name of "national security", we could be living in a dystopia very soon. This is the American government, we are talking about here, not the Russian, Belarusian, or the Chinese government. We are talking about the AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. Our nation is supposed to be free and democratic. What was just done was oligarchic at best and dictatorial at worst. I am worried that our right to free speech over the internet may be taken away from us if we speak out against the government too much.

Sure, I don't mind banning it on government devices. That sounds like an actual national security concern. Banning it nationwide when many people use it, is just wrong. Even if it is a Chinese app that collects data and could use that data dangerously, that doesn't mean it should immediately die. If you really want to argue on the front of Tiktok's banning being good due to Bytedance being Chinese, why not take down all of the Chinese apps like they have done to our apps. I think the only way that they could justify banning Tiktok would be if they took down the others like RedNote or Lemon8. It still wouldn't be a good move, in fact, it would be more draconian. At least then though, it wouldn't be pointless.

tl;dr: I think that the banning of Tiktok is bad since it could set a precedent of the government banning apps that they dislike. I also think that only banning Tiktok was a very ignorant move and breaks the "national security" argument.
