Identity Theft Scam Awareness???

Hey so uhhhh guys please be careful out there. I think I was almost just scammed by someone who wanted to "paint my face" for a mural competition and they said they'd pay me $300. they asked for my picture and phone number. I told them part of my real name but not my full name. They were a little insistent in knowing my name and as soon as they were, I blocked them. I also should have noticed that they weren't even interested in knowing who I was either.

Please everyone be careful. The account on here I almost got scammed by was "SophieArt" with a discord username "Linda" with some numbers after it. She has 300 friends on spacehey but I didn't trust it.

They said they would send me a check through text and then they wanted my email and I didn't give them my email luckily. 

someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't exactly trust those kind of people.

Edit: I like to see people's art but I have to be very careful. Again, it's very hard for me to warm up to people but I'll know when something is wrong most of the time.
