Welcome again to Late Recs 2O! Where I (Vyn) recommend you guys "unpopular" bands from the early 2000’s-2010’s (with the occasional newer bands!)
As always, a Spotify playlist, which contains two songs of each band mentioned, will be linked at the end of this blog in case you want to skip the fun facts and get straight to it! ☆
Late Recs 2O!… start!
☆ 1997
A pop rock/alternative rock band formed in October of 2005 from Chicago, Illinois. They signed to indie label "Victory Records" in 2006, and released their full-length debut album "A Better View of the Rising Moon" in April of the following year. 1997 went on to release two more albums before finally splitting up in 2010.
Fun fact: The title do their album "A Better View of the Rising Moon" comes from a Haiku by Japanese poet Mizuta Masahide (read HERE)
☆ The Junior Varsity
An emo/alternative rock band formed in 2002 from Normal, Illinois. The band released their debut album "The Great Empire" under "British Records" in 2004, signing up to indie label "Victory Records" that same year. The band split up in 2007 and since then has had various reunions; releasing a song in December 24th of 2024 (listen HERE)
Fun fact: The band self-released an EP in 2002 which contained six songs. Sadly. I was only able to find half of them so if anyone knows anything about the ones I’m missing please let us know!

☆ Self Against City
A pop rock band formed in 2004 from Sacramento, CA. They released their EP "Take It How You Want It" (listen HERE) in 2005 and their full-length album "Telling Secrets to Strangers" two years later before finally splitting up in 2009.
Fun fact: Self Against City was the first band to sign to label Rushmore Records.
Extra fact: Three of SAC members went on to form band "Owltrain" (listen HERE) while the bassist of the band went on to form band "Musical Charis" with his wife (listen HERE)
☆ Name Taken
A rock band formed in 1999 from Orange, CA. They released their first (under the name "Name Taken") EP titled "The Silent Game" in 2001, going on to release their debut album "Hold On" under label "Fiddler Records" on April of 2004. The band broke up in May of 2005 to focus on their college education; playing two sold out shows in 2007 and releasing a new song titled "Blood and Bones" in 2018 (listen HERE)
Fun fact: The band was formerly known as "All That’s Left" until they discovered the name was already taken… which explains where "Name Taken" comes from!
Extra fact: It’s said that the lyrics from their song "Panic" (listen HERE) were the inspiration for the name of band Panic! at the Disco.
