I am starting to be scared that I won't ever have the opportunity to be fully financially independent on my own because of my chronic illnesses and medical expenses. I did some calculations and all of my meds would cost at least $10k a month without any insurance and that doesn't even include doctor's appointments, unexpected copays etc.
If people my age are struggling to pay rent, how the F*CK am I going to be able to make it on my own with this situation? I'm screwed next year at 26 because I'll be off my parents' health insurance, the job market for all fields is royal trash and even if I do get a job, NO job is remotely secure anymore. No way in HELL will I feel secure at any job anymore when your health insurance and livelihood can be pulled under you at any time without any legal repercussions. Insurance is also SO expensive that you can't afford to buy it on your own, and it's so F*CKED UP. I don't want to be at the mercy of a company for my insurance, no WAY.
Going off my meds are not an option it turns out so I don't have any choice but to make this work. All my other peers are worrying just about paying bills but don't have to worry about health insurance, meds appointments etc which are a bunch of extra expenses. They'll be saving $10k while i'll be in poverty at this rate.Β
I have a feeling that I will have no choice but to always depend on my parents for some kind of financial help for the rest of their lives the way my life is going. I hate relying on people and I hate asking for help because it gives them ammo to manipulate you or hold over your head for control. In an ideal world, I would be completely financially independent from my parents and go indefinite low contact with my toxic mom, but I won't be able to do this anytime soon unfortunately.
F*CK you chronic illness for financially f*cking up my future. And F*CK you chronic illness for giving me pain, body image issues, and feelings of isolation from everyone else my age. This f*cking SUCKS and I'm terrified. I try not to worry about this too much, but I know it will be a serious problem soon.Β

Not trying to pry too much, but can I ask if you have at least 60 college credits? The reason I ask this is because a lot of public schools will hire classroom assistants (sometimes called aides or paras). These assistants don't make as much as teachers, but they get the same benefits if they are full time. I did this for a long time and it really did save me when I moved away from home. It may depend on your state (I assume you're in the us) but many states have education unions that fight for this stuff. Once again, sorry to pry, but I always like to suggest this.
