If You're Going To Write Me a Letter

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it hurt. Make it honest and biting and full of all the truths I don’t want to face. Write reality to me so that maybe I will read a story that I cannot hide from the world in. Pour out the harsh fairs and unfair evens. Strike me across the mind with the words I do not dare to utter, and the things I do not dare to see.

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it beautiful. Write about everything that you notice, and everything that you love. Write the littlest things about me, and tell me how you adore every hack, every laze, everything that makes up my soul. Shove a mirror in my face and make it erase my sorrows.

If you’re going to write a letter, make it informative. Tell me everything about you, and then tell me more. Tell me your smallest irritations, and your biggest annoyances. Confide your lies to me and see how I will forgive them. Confess your sins and watch as I fall on my knees for them. Cry to me about your deepest regrets and sorrows and I will pry them from the hateful crypt of shame to see the image of healing.

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it truthful. Confront my annoyances. Rat out my irritations. Seethe as you pen my worst abilities, and then tell me that you will love me anyway. Hate my sins, give blows to my weakness. Growl my mistakes, and scream the pain I have caused.

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it interesting. Tell me about your day. Relay to me the things that captivated your eyes, caught your interest. Soothe my soul with the written melody of your mind. Tell me the events, what you did. Tell me what you loved and what you liked. Tell me what you disliked and what you hated. Tell me what you did not mind but did not favor. Tell me about a fun conversation, if only in snippets. I will string them together like a detective until I understand.

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it soft. Tell me all the ways you love me, and then tell me why. Tell me the memories you love, and when. Tell me the best parts of you, and let me cradle them like precious gems. Tell me the little habits, and little interests. Show me the world through your eyes. Rant to me about everything no one notices. Tell me daydreams, aspirations, small goals. I will listen.

If you’re going to write me a letter, make it honest.

And if you’re going to write me a letter, make sure that I receive it.

Because if you’re going to write me a letter, I will write back.
