rant abt frutiger aero and "the future we were promised"

Frutiger aero is a design trend that started in the early 2000s and made it's way onto the early 2010s too. We all know hhow it looks like since people are using it a lot now as a way to reminisce of the past, the times when the new tech was intriguing and decorated with bubbly images of nature and hyper realistic icons.Β

Now, i'm seeing that there's a misconception abt this. The images depicted in frutiger aero were not part of a project for a "promised future", nor were they the image of what people thought the future would be like. If anything, frutiger aero is a product of it's time; the reason why it was created was to make the new, advanced tech feel more natural and intuitive. Companies achieved this by using images of animals, skies, water, cities and landscapes, and making UIs and app icons that look like their real life counterparts (ex: using a clock pic for the clock app, making the internet icon a globe, making music players look like stereos). Their goal was to switch up to minimalism once people were familiar with tech and how to use it and you can see that progression if you look up how company logos, user interfaces, app icons, etc change through the years. Frutiger aero wasn't the future we were promised. the point in tech design where we are now was always their main goal.

That's it i just saw a silly blog entry someone made talking about this and i wanted to say my piece lol
