Artists I Love: Dean Blunt

Dean Blunt is a mysterious musician from the United Kingdom. Dean's music is some of the most interesting and creative pieces works I've listened to. His main genre is "Art Pop" but I feel like there isn't a correct genre to describe him.

He can delve into different sounds (taking influences from pop and rap at points) and still managing to keep its avant-garde nature that connects only to him.

When paired up with Inga Copeland to form the duo "Hype Williams" I really think he takes off. Both of them do a great job at making music and ambient works that feel disjointed shapes put together, and create a sound that sounds foggy and distant. Even though these songs are being described as something ghostly and vague, they're still produced in a way that feel accessible if that makes sensee. To best put it, they sound like old and worn demos off cassette tapes.

The album that really extenuates this feeling is "The Attitude Era" by them. The tape is kinda long but I really think it's an interesting piece of art.

Dean doesn't feel like an everyday musician or even artist for that matter. He's able to put music into his own way of thinking that works for him. The way he puts his music can feel out of order, or can have instrumentation that's picked and arranged perfectly that can be presented in a more conventional way (ex. LUSH or 100).

Either way Dean is a brilliant mind that does what he wants. If you like it you'll take it, and if you don't it'll just be picked up by those who like his less conventional works.
