BUCK-TICK

Possibly one of the greatest bands of all time. And I'm not even kidding. The musical variety is still cohesive and done with extreme amounts of precision, it's insane. Not to mention the vocals of the late Atsushi Sakurai- I have to place the guy on the same tier as Freddie Mercury, and personal bias wants me to place him even higher. Decades and decades of fantastic albums one after the other, and even if one or two don't hold up compared to the rest of the discography, you still can't deny not only the talent but the artistic processes and concepts and thus the results of all said and done!

I want to make more blog posts about them, maybe one post per album. As we speak I'm relistening to Hurry Up Mode for the millionth time- their first album from 1987. Even when they were starting out, they knew what the hell they were doing! They knew what they wanted! Granted HUM isn't what they're known for (they're more known for, it seems, Darker Than Darkness Style 93 for example, with Dress, and all the gothic tones and wailing and such.)

It's incredible to listen to their discography chronologically and I implore all other Buck-Tick fans to do the same if they haven't already. Listening to their development, how they lean into certain genres more than others over time, how it all ties into and reflects their own personal histories (take the album Kurutta Taiyou for example, specifically the song Sakura; Atsushi had lost his mother earlier that year IIRC.)

There's more I'd love to write, but this is long enough as is, and I have my planner to attend to... please comment your thoughts if there are any! Very grateful to be a fan, even if (and I admit) I'm a newer one- I only discovered them early August 2024. And here I am... with a solid and set plan to see them on what I hear to be their final tour later this year, in May!!
