So I'm sure by now you know that tiktok is getting in the U.S., but the problem now is about where people are going.
The whole point in banning tiktok was to limit the amount of data China is able to collect, mostly for the safety of politicians. However, taking away tiktok is just making things worse for the government. Everyone is moving to an app called Rednote, which is like pinterest x tiktok, but its a Chinese app. Now at this point there is no point in taking tiktok unless the government is going to take all the other Chinese apps that collect data as well. BUT this specific app isn't just "owned" by china, its a chinese app. Its directly owned by the chinese communist party and is subject to censoring. So we are no longer getting our data sold, but instead giving it directly to the Chinese government.
So why is this a problem?
Well many people are going on this app because they want to do exactly want the government DIDN'T want. Im assuming they expected us to flee to Meta apps (instagram, facebook, etc.) or apps like twitter (X) or youtube. But no, these apps just don't compare to tiktok, but Rednote is the closest.
At this point the government can either not ban tiktok, but the damage is already done. Or they can ban Rednote as well, which will leave us fleeing to another chinese app if i'm being honest. But if they try banning all the chinese apps, it isnt going to work because it would most likley violate the first amendment. Honestly, I'm not too serious about this and think the whole situation of moving to rednote/going against the government is a bit funny. I've heard that Musk and Zuckerburg are loosing money because no one is moving to their apps at this point.
anyway guys have fun with Tiktok before it gets banned and have fun with Rednote too :3 i hope we can find something that doesnt have as much censorship though.
